Psychology Of Tennis
Tennis is not only a game of skill and endurance. Just like most other sports its also a psychological and mental game.
1. Know how to lose. Lose generously, cheerfully, and as a good sportsman.
2. When you win, do it generously, cheerfully, modestly, and as a good sportsman.
3. Win fair and square. If you win by cheating then its really a defeat.
4. Play to the last ounce of strength you have. If you still lose then you know you tried your best.
5. Play tennis for the game's sake. If you are playing for money or fame then you will never reach your full potential. If you play for the pleasure of the game you'll win over the crowds.
6. Keep you competitive spirit. Want to win and desire to proove yourself.
7. Never allow your opponents to play a shot he/she like if possible. In other words force them to play your game, not theirs.
8. Study your opponent both on and off the court. Look for weaknesses and exploit them. A good opponent will try to do the same thing to you. If your opponent wants you at the net then stay back and force your opponent to come in.
9. Some would argue that the best defense is a good offense so be sure to attack. This leaves less time for your opponent to formulate their attack.
10. If you're opponent is very steady, hit to win. Don't try to beat him at his own game. If your opponent is wild, then play it safe and exploit your opponents errors.
11. If its not broke then don't fix it. Never change a winning game.
12. If you're losing, you might as well change it up because you're no worse off. Be careful, it's not always easy to say just when you are really beaten. If you feel you are playing well but still lost the first set, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a losing game for you.
13. Only takes risks when you are behind.
14. Never lose your nerve or confidence in a match. If you do then you have essentially handed your opponent a couple points a game.
15. Never show fatigue or pain if it is possible to avoid. Doing so will only give your opponent more confidence and most likely they're just as tired as you are.
16. Do not worry. If you are worried don't let your opponent know you are worried.
17. Smile from time to time. This gives the impression of confidence.
18. Keep fighting but enjoy the fight. The harder the match the harder you should fight.
