Tennis Half Volley

The half volley shot requires better timing, eyesight, and racquet work than any other shot. This is because the it is easy to makes mistakes that can cause numerous mishaps. In this shot the ball meets the ground and the racquet face at almost the same moment. The ball practically bounces off the ground through the racquet strings. In order make this shot you need a stiff wrist, short swing, and no follow through.

The racquet face will travel along the ground with a slight tilt over the ball towards the net. This holds the ball low. The shot should travel across the racquet face, along the short strings with the raquet facing slightly outside the ball. This shot is a last resort defensive stroke when caught out of position.
